About Hemby Interiors

Beth Hemby – Licensed Interior Designer
Prior to enrolling at Auburn University in the Interiors & Housing Program, I had a keen interest in interiors as a child. Visiting Open Houses and construction sites was fun to me, and I would envision how the rooms could be completed. My Barbie Dream House
was full of everything that I could dream of, right down to furnishings and accessories that I would make, such as a soap holder and miniature soap. Upon visiting Auburn, I was torn between architecture and interior design. Both appealed to me because I enjoyed drawing just as much as I did selecting colors. My decision came after I realized that I would find more satisfaction in being able to see a project to the end instead of beginning it and handing it over to an interior designer to complete. That was over 40 years ago, and I have had the joy and privilege to be involved in many projects to include residential, commercial, healthcare, and hospitality in the tri-state area of Alabama, Georgia and Florida.
It's hard to say that I have a favorite because every project has been different. More importantly, each client has contributed to my knowledge and growth as they also became friends.
Interior Design is personal, and I believe if done correctly, it truly contributes to the well-being of those who occupy the space. My goal for each project, whether it be new construction or a remodel, is that it provides the client with the ability to enjoy their lives and create positive memories in a pleasing and safe environment. This is achieved by proper communication, assessing all variables realistically, especially including budget, and implementing the process in a way that is stress-free and time sensitive. The saying “time is money” is especially true in the world of interior design. My many years of communicating with sub-contractors and creating timelines has given me the ability to serve as a project manager, which I find to be just as rewarding as design.
If I had to describe my design style in 3 terms, they would be eclectic/traditional
combined with, color conscious, and functional. My definition of Eclectic/Traditional is using timeless and classic pieces mixed with unique finds using other furnishings, accents, or a unique color. Using color to pull all elements together in a harmonious manner is my signature style. I like color and I use it everywhere! A painted or wallpapered ceiling can add flair to a room and is so simple. Having a background in drafting and multiple years of experience in designing kitchens and baths have caused
me to always be aware of how a room is best used by its inhabitants. I ask a lot of questions before starting a project, so that functionality can be achieved. I am also proud to say that I have completed coursework which qualifies me as an Aging in Place Specialist. That professional designation enables me to assist someone so that they can safely stay in their home, which also brings me great joy.
The proper description of a licensed interior designer is someone who practices design under the principals of health, safety, and welfare. My degree from Auburn University in 1990 and working under a licensed designer in Birmingham qualified me to take the
national exam to become a licensed interior designer. To maintain that title, I must complete 10 hours of continuing education each year. The classes are centered around new products, which are ever-evolving, along with updates on building codes, and the latest trends in kitchens and baths.
For 35 years, I have practiced the wonderful field of interior design and what I love most is that I am constantly learning so that I can educate clients. It truly is an honor to be invited into someone’s home or workplace to help them to live life more happily and efficiently. I look forward to meeting with you for a consultation and most of all listening to what you want to achieve. Everyone has creativity, some just more than others. It is my job to facilitate and grow each client’s ideas, and I enjoy that immensely!
